Description

The Megger® DET2/2 Auto Earth Tester is a robust compact instrument designed for measuring earth electrode resistance and soil resistivity. It uses the four terminal method of measurement which eliminates the resistance of the current circuit from the measurement. The circuit design ensures that the resistance of the potential circuit does not affect the measurement during practical testing.

The instrument is microprocessor controlled and provides a flexible, ‘user-friendly’ approach to earth testing by giving good error detection capabilities and full test information on a large easily readable alpha-numeric display. A simple key pad can be used to adjust the test frequency, the test current level and the filtering so that adverse conditions influencing the test may be overcome. The display indicates if:-

•  the noise interference in the soil passing the test current is excessive.
•  the current test spike resistance is too high.
•  the potential test spike resistance is too high.
•  the battery needs recharging.

Because these factors are indicated directly the whole testing procedure is accomplished easily and more rapidly

A wide band of test current frequencies, with a resolution of 0,5 Hz, may be used to eliminate errors caused by noise in the earth. The chosen test current frequency, test current level and the increased filtering option are stored in memory for use in subsequent tests.

The display can be set to show its information in the following languages:- English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish.

The maximum output voltage is limited to 50 V for safety when performing a test and convenience when repositioning test spikes. The instrument is auto-ranging relieving the operator of any concern as to which resistance range to use. The low service error and an IP 54 environmental specification enable accurate results to be obtained in ‘unfriendly’ testing conditions.

Power for the instrument is supplied from a rechargeable lead acid battery which gives 5 hours of life per charge, equivalent to six hundred individual tests lasting 30 seconds each.

The DET2/2 is built into a robust plastic case and has its four terminals, equipped for spade or 4 mm connectors, mounted on the front panel.

DET4TC2 & DET4TCR2

Digital Ground Testers

  • » IP54 rated
  • » 2, 3 and 4 point testing
  • » Attached Rod Technique (ART)
  • » Stakeless measurements
  • » User selectable test frequency
  • » Dry cell or rechargeable versions
  • » User selectable output voltage
  • » Simple one button operation
  • » Robust carry case
  • » Backlit display
  • » Delivered with calibration certificate

Description

Megger’s DET4 family of ground testing instruments offers a comprehensive solution to your ground stake and soil resistivity testing needs. The standard instrument comes with test leads, stakes, terminal adaptors for bare wire, batteries and calibration certificate are delivered in a tough carry case which has space to accommodate all the instrument accessories - everything you need to start testing in one kit.

The DET4TC2 and DET4TCR2 are designed for extended temperature range use with an IP54 rated enclosure making them genuinely outdoor instruments. The instrument provides all the functions required for ground system testing: variable frequency 2 pole, 3 pole, 4 pole, Attached Rod Technique (ART), stakeless, leakage current and ground noise voltage measurement.

The instrument is easy to use with a large rotary selector switch and one-press test button, both of which permit operation with gloved hands. Unlike some instruments, the design negates the need for a shorting link when making two pole measurements. There are no hidden functions with the instrument: clearly labelled auxiliary controls are used to select the test frequency (94 Hz, 105 Hz, 111 Hz and 128 Hz), output voltage (50 V or 25 V where local standards apply) and to switch the backlight on or off.

The optional ICLAMP augments the traditional fall-ofpotential measurement method with ART (Attached Rod Technique) which allows electrode testing without disconnection and also leakage current measurements down to 1 mA. A second optional clamp, the VCLAMP, enables true stakeless measurements to be made in situations where driving stakes is not practical.

The clear, easy-to-read display provides excellent contrast and viewing angle making the instrument ideally suited to outdoor use. The display is backlit, extending the operational environment of the instrument to cable cellars and other dark locations.

The instrument offers a wide measurement range of 0.01 Ω to 200 kΩ, ground noise voltage measurement from 1 V to 100 V and ground current from 1 mA to 20 A. Accurate results can be obtained in electrically noisy environments since the instrument is capable of rejecting noise voltages of 40 V peak to peak and the user can select different test frequencies to minimise the effect of interference.

The DET4TC2 Digital Ground tester is powered from 8 AA batteries which are widely available and deliver excellent testing time. The DET4TCR2 is powered from rechargeable AA cells. The battery charger is built in and the instrument is supplied with an AC/DC adaptor. For both instruments, the battery status is display using a bar-graph.

The Megger ground testers comply with stringent safety standards and are rated to 100 V CAT IV. They also have selectable 25 V or 50 V output for compliance with IEC 61557-5.

DET14C and DET24C

Digital Earth Clamps

  • » Elliptical clamp shape improves access to earth cables and straps up to 50 mm
  • » Low maintenance flat jaw interface
  • » Measures ground resistance from 0.05 Ω to 1500 Ω
  • » Measures true RMS ground leakage current from 0.5 mA rms to 35 A rms
  • » CAT IV 600 V safety rating
  • » Backlit LCD display

Description

The DET14C and DET24C represent a new generation of earth/ground clamp-on resistance testers. These instruments induce a test current into earth systems and measure ground resistance in multi ground installations without needing to disconnect the ground. They offer market leading access, advanced features, simple operation and CAT IV 600 V safety protection.

Designed with flat core ends they prevent dirt build up, ensuring measurement integrity and improved reliability over products with interlocking teeth. Other enhancements over current generation products include improved accuracy and up to 300% increase in battery life. In electrically noisy environments the built-in filter function offers increased noise immunity.

DET14C and DET24C also offer a true RMS AC current measurement facility up to 35 Amps. The instrument’s ability to measure current flowing in an earth cable is a useful safety feature, especially if the earth cable has to be disconnected. A high current flow to earth could draw an arc on disconnection with potentially severe consequences.

The elliptical shaped head design offers improved access to cables and earth straps in space constrained locations. The clamp head accommodates up to 37 mm diameter cable and 50 mm earth tapes making them suitable for use in power stations, substations, towers and many more facilities. Operation in dark and restricted areas is facilitated by a display with backlight and an audible tone associated with the hold key. Optimised jaw opening mechanism ensures proper jaw closure without excessive use of force when opening the jaws.

The DET14C offers storage of results for later on-screen recall and the DET24C supports a download of results via IrDA-to-USB link into PowerDB and Power DB Lite, Megger’s acceptance and maintenance test data management software. Stored data is indexed using a sequential serial number together with a time and date stamp for each record.
